flashback friday: the dating game

this is one of my favorite stories to tell, because it is so romantic and i get to explain how brandon & i first met and fell in love.

on february 14, 2005 i was living with some of my best friends in the "hizzouse". since we all didn't have boyfriends or male suitors at the time, we decided that we would draw names on who would get "pixie valentine gifts" for each other. it was too much fun for a bunch of girls living together.

when valentines day rolled around, i found myself with no real expectations or feelings of bitterness. after many years of not receiving much attention from the opposite sex, valentines day almost became just another day to me. i went to work as usual and came home at around 5pm. as i was putting together some valentine things for my pixie, i hear a knock at the front door and my roommate's voice calling out to me, "harm! delivery!"

now keep in mind as i walk out the bedroom door to the hallway, i still have no expectations of anything special. i just thought to myself, "awww, my friends sent me some flowers...yada yada yada" but i turn into the living room...and standing there in the doorway is brandon - dressed in black looking soo handsome with his hands behind his back. i smile. he pulls out a single red rose, stuffed animal, and a little silver box from behind his back. by this point my mind is going nuts - i am seriously speechless.

he says to me, "i just came by to wish you a happy valentines day...and i have a surprise for you outside." so i follow him out to his car and of course i'm thinking that this could NOT get any better. he opens his trunk and pulls out a guitar. he asks me to sit on the doorstep so i do as i'm told since i have no words to object. romeo gets on his knees and sings me the sweetest love song with his guitar accompaniment. i melt...but the cherry on top of this incredibly romantic valentines sundae? he asks me out. and i'm still as happy as that moment on the doorstep.

*the above picture is from the exact moment on the doorstep. if you look closely you can see the back of my head and brandon's elbow. forgive me, it isn't much - but since my housemates were trying to be discreet and still retrieve a memory for me, it is the most visually documented piece of the event that i have.

thanks to my valentines pixie, titi, for the eternal & thoughtful valentines gift...i'll owe you forever.
