crybaby

so much for another relaxing day...

i had high hopes for a continuation of the calm and content attitude ahonui was dishing out over the past weekend. unfortunately, those hopes came crashing down lastnight.

after a group project meeting for my ICS class, brandon, ahonui, and i went to foodland to get some grocery shopping done. the time was about 10:15pm so it was far past ahonui's bedtime but i figured this would get him tuckered out so he'd sleep better. one idea that didn't pan out too well.

we finished our shopping and as we were leaving, we noticed two african students waiting with a shopping cart full of groceries outside of the store. i actually noticed them walking out as we were going in, so i knew they were waiting out there for quite some time. so as we pulled out of our parking spot, brandon asked if they needed a ride home. they seemed very relieved, and accepted our offer. the funny thing is: they didn't need a ride to campus - they needed a ride to punalu'u! so we packed up their items into the trunk and they climbed into the backseat next to ahonui in his carseat. i seemed to have forgotten that ahonui doesn't do well with strangers. however, by the time we passed chevron - ahonui gave brandon & i a bloodcurdling reminder that he in fact does not do well with unfamiliar people in the backseat with him. not only did i feel bad for our two friends from ghana who simply needed a way to get home, but my heart ached for the little crybaby with a bright red face and soaked shirt from the streaming tears and boogers. nice.

note to self: random acts of kindness extend only within a 2 mile radius when ahonui is in the car.

Way to be a good neighbor. It's always a shame when the little kiddies aren't as helpful as we would like them to be, but if you keep it up, Ahonui might just learn from your good example.
